First Lego League
Eastlake High School’s FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Team, TitanBot FRC #2543, will co-host their 13th annual FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Qualifying Tournament in conjunction with Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR) and Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific) on Saturday, November 4th, 2023. 13 local teams will have the opportunity to compete with hopes of advancing to the FIRST Championship. The event is free and open to the public and will be hosted in Chula Vista at the Eastlake High School gymnasium. Teams are expected to arrive at 8:00 AM, with opening ceremonies scheduled at 12:00 PM, and concluding with the award ceremony at 3:10 PM.
In the 2023 challenge, FIRST In Show, students are given the opportunity to work together and innovate on how to spread art and foster creativity throughout the world by building and designing different possibilities. Young, aspiring engineers, from ages 9 to 14, will be operating their student-designed, small-scale autonomous LEGO robots to complete missions based around the season’s challenge in order to score points. Each team will compete in three 2.5-minute rounds to determine their highest game score. Teams will also present their robot design, core values and a research project focused on real-world problem solving to identify innovative solutions. Judges and referees are volunteers, scientists, and engineers from NAVWAR and NIWC Pacific.
The event will be accompanied by robot demonstrations of FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST LEGO League robots, as well as a NAVWAR technology display. Special guests, including dignitaries from NAVWAR, NIWC Pacific, the Eastlake Educational Foundation and Sweetwater Union High School District, will be in attendance. Furthermore, opening ceremonies will have presentations by a Sweetwater District string quartet and NIWC Pacific's color guard.
