About

In the 2023 challenge, FIRST In Show, students are given the opportunity to work together and innovate on how to spread art and foster creativity throughout the world by building and designing different possibilities. Young, aspiring engineers, from ages 9 to 14, will be operating their student-designed, small-scale autonomous LEGO robots to complete missions based around the season’s challenge in order to score points. Each team will compete in three 2.5-minute rounds to determine their highest game score. Teams will also present their robot design, core values and a research project focused on real-world problem solving to identify innovative solutions. Judges and referees are volunteers, scientists, and engineers from NAVWAR and NIWC Pacific.

The event will be accompanied by robot demonstrations of FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST LEGO League robots, as well as a NAVWAR technology display. Special guests, including dignitaries from NAVWAR, NIWC Pacific, the Eastlake Educational Foundation and Sweetwater Union High School District, will be in attendance. Furthermore, opening ceremonies will have presentations by a Sweetwater District string quartet and NIWC Pacific's color guard.
